Your Commitment
Please understand that when you sign up for a spot you are making a commitment to excellent patient care at The Monday Clinic. All volunteers are expected to act as representatives of both the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and the North Dallas Shared Ministries, and as such, we ask that you coduct yourselves as professionals. These students will primarily be premedical undergraduate students and should arrive at 4:45 pm on the appropriate clinic day to be trained.
Translator
Roles of the interpreters include assisting with patient registration, facilitating communication between patients and physicians during the medical visit, making phone calls as needed to report lab tests, and explaining services available outside the NDSM clinic. While interpreters should only accept assignments consistent with their language fluency, the use of dictionaries?especially for medical terminology?is encouraged. Please note that students fluent in Spanish are welcome to sign up either for medical or translation positions.

Intake/Discharge Manager: The I/D Manager will oversee the intake and triage process and be available to answer questions and address problems that may arise during patient registration. They will also receive each patient?s chart before the patient is discharged and review the chart to assure that everything has been done according to the standards of the clinic, that the patient clearly understands their treatment plan, and that the proper protocol is followed for any referral given for follow-up care.
Medical Manager: The Medical Manager is ultimately responsible for all operations of the clinic for the evening. They will begin by overseeing the student orientation at the beginning of the evening and then move to managing the medical operations of the clinic once patients begin to be seen. In addition, the Clinic Managers will complete all administrative and data collection responsibilities before the clinic closes each night.
Attending Physician
Physicians will assist with the healthcare needs of the underserved population of North Dallas, as well as serve as educators and mentors to medical students. They will oversee student-directed care by serving as attending physicians. Teams of medical students will present their patients to the attending physician, as if on rounds.
